Connecticut Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
Finally! An Earned Income Tax Credit for Connecticut
Return to Connecticut EITC
Low-income working families will receive an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for 2011, thanks to the leadership of Gov. Dannel Malloy, who included the EITC in his budget, and legislators, led by Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney of New Haven, who enacted the budget.
Advocates who have fought for an EITC for the past decade, led by the Connecticut Association for Human Services, hailed Malloy for its passage. “Gov. Malloy recognizes that an EITC is needed more than ever in difficult economic times, to help stimulate the economy,” said CAHS Executive Director Jim Horan.
A broad coalition effort has fought for years to create a state EITC, winning support from key legislators, and this year, the Governor. The credit was included in this year’s budget to ensure that tax increases did not unduly burden low- and moderate-income working families earning up to about $49,000 per year.
The Connecticut EITC now stands at 30 percent of the federal EITC, which means that more than 180,000 households in Connecticut will receive an average credit of about $450 during the 2012 tax season.
