How to Get Food in Connecticut

New for 2005: You can now order free copies from our online store or download How to Get Food in Connecticut, our 26-page food and nutrition resource guide in English.

The changing laws and regulations concerning food assistance and other public benefit programs can be difficult to keep track of. The Community Outreach Project at CAHS breaks through confusion by providing detailed information on federal, state and local food programs to consumers and service providers throughout the state. Our outreach workers have developed How to Get Food in Connecticut, which informs consumers and providers on how to access public and private food programs across the state. The guide contains information on Food Stamps, farmers’ markets, the WIC program, School Breakfast and Lunch, elderly nutrition programs, and more. CAHS has distributed thousands of these guides, and we are making them available free of charge.

Your Family’s Money

Your Family’s Money: Simple Ways to Build a Better Future, is now available. This guide provides money management tips and pitfalls to avoid as families move toward self-sufficiency. Topics covered include: basic budgeting, saving for college, saving for retirement, credit card debt, and the pitfalls of using high cost check cashing agencies and rent-to-own stores, to name a few. The guide, which is available in English and Spanish, as well as English and Spanish for Bridgeport, New Haven, Stamford and Norwalk residents, will surely come in handy for lower and middle-income clients, as well as service providers.
