This Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 12:00 P.M., April the Finance Revenue and Bonding Committee will hear testimony regarding Raised Bill No. 7314, An Act Concerning a Tax on Certain Sweetened Beverages. If passed, the bill would place a one cent tax on sugar sweetened beverages. The bill is intended to encourage consumers to choose healthier options. It is estimated that the tax will produce about $140 million dollars and the revenue produced by the tax would be placed in a fund for obesity prevention programs and Care4Kids.

How to testify:
The hearing will take place in Room 2E of the LOB. Public speaker order will be determined by a lottery system. Lottery numbers will be drawn from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. in the First Floor Atrium of the LOB. Speakers arriving after the completion of the lottery will have their names placed at the end of the speaker list. Please submit 35 copies of written testimony to the Committee staff at 10:00 A.M. in the First Floor Atrium of the LOB.
